Since their birth, Jews, Christians, and Muslims have turned
to Abraham at times of crisis to help understand, explain, and soothe their
place in the world. In the aftermath of September 11, Bruce Feiler, author of
the New York Times bestseller, WALKING THE BIBLE began to hear the
questions: Who are they? Why do they hate us?
Can the religions get along? One name echoed behind that conversation: Abraham.
"He is our shared father," says Feiler, "and today we need
Abraham more than ever."
Please join us in this unique interfaith dialogue.
What is an Abraham Salon?
An informal, grassroots, interfaith discussion, held in communities around the United States, led by a local moderator with a professional study guide, designed to use the shared figure of Abraham as a catalyst for building trust and communication among different religious groups.
When are the Abraham Salons?
Abraham Salons can be held at anytime. Please take a look at the resources in the section for more information on starting a salon.
Who will organize the Abraham Salons?
Abraham Salons will be organized entirely by local groups and can be held in diverse locations: private homes, churches, synagogues, mosques, libraries, bookstores, community centers, etc.
Who is invited to the Abraham Salons?
Each Abraham Salon will be run by individuals or groups who will invite members of their communities. Salon organizers might invite Jews, Christians, and Muslims, but are not required to. Successful Salons do not require participation of all three religions.
What support material will be provided for the Abraham Salons?
Each group that registers to hold a salon will receive a special Abraham Salon Packet which will include a personal letter from the author, biblical and Koranic passages for discussion, professionally designed discussion points, some advice for how best to hold interfaith conversations, follow up ideas and resources, and other items.
We hope you'll want to participate in this vital dialogue.
